Critical Reflection 6 3/12/2021 The way the film industry has changed over the years and by audiences’ different institutions. For example, in the Western part of the United States like Hollywood and other popular film industries affect other parts of the U.S and even Globally. The spreading of west culture in film can cause place lessness in the film industry causing a lack of multiculturism. Multiculturalism now can be implemented in the film industry to maintain diversity in a diverse setting. An example of this is the Wes Andersons The Great Budapest Hotel had an audience of mostly British people and Wes Anderson fans. However due to the film marketing budget there was mainly poster and other little adds that were sent out. The marketing did not stretch out to other countries because this independent institution could not afford this way of marketing. This restricts the films audience and affects them because of their budget. Film in Hollywood and the west does change the overall film industry. There is a cluster in the western part of the U.S when it comes to Film. Film in other countries globally can be an issue because of distance decay as it is not as prominent in other countries. As said earlier film is clustered in the western U.S however making it dominant there instead of being spread out throughout the U.S or even Globally. Discuss the ways in which the candidates’(this is you) own experiences of media consumption (how you use, access, and produce) illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behaviour.
Film My experiences with media consumptions illustrates wider patterns and trends in audience behavior and helping me understand the film by studying film components. Studying film components and viewing film the film industry allows or me to have a better understanding of film and also widens my experience in the industry. Components I study such as camera angles and shots have a role in better understanding and comprehending certain films. In my own experiences in media consumption it allows me to widen my experience(as I said earlier) and further my knowledge and understanding of film and distribution. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I integrate technologies in this project in many different ways. I’ve learned new technologies and easier way to accomplish projects. In PowerPoint I learned and inquired the use of transparency in images. Also, I learned how to remove background and how to use layers in PowerPoint. For example I used transparency in my images to give my text and my background different colors so that the reader has a clear view of the words. Also, I used the remove background tool and used the mark area to keep or remove any unwanted background parts that I did not want. I used this to crop out the baseball bat, mask, and glove. There was a background image that I did not want in the picture so I used that tool to crop all of the unwanted parts out How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills before this were not the best and I really did not know what I was doing. I got more familiar with applications like photoshop and started to feel more confident in myself. I learned how to work in word and got familiar with all the technology within it. I learned how to paste images and edit them. I also learned how to use certain texts and how to put them on a magazine I would have never understood how to make a magazine cover until how and I think that I have learned so much and developed a lot. Also, my creativity levels have also increased by a lot because I learned and found new ways to attract certain audiences. Overall, I think I improved and learned lots throughout this project. 1 paragraph: how does your product engage with audiences
1 paragraph: how does your product be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with my audience because the cover really attracts a certain type of audience. The type of audience that this would be targeting and attracting would be young/mid aged athletes that are into sports. When the audience of the product sees a baseball picture on the front cover they would instantly think of sports. The writing on the product provides updates to those interested into sports. The center of the article would attract young high school athletes. This is because the center article in the product would be describing scholarships into college. This is the goal of most of high school athletes and would definitely bring to their attention. My product would be distributed as a real media text where most of the viewers would be present. The young athletes and most teenagers stay online a lot so I would most likely do a online magazine and would be distributed to the person thru mail. The delivery would be a hard copy of the magazine. Most of the audience would be online and that would be the reason that I would post it there. This would be great because it would attract more and more viewers. Since most teenagers theses dfays are online it would be easier for them. Write a summary paragraph of the book pages 144 through the first paragraph on page 161.
Write a summary paragraph from page 161 (Entertainment and ER) through 171 (top half of the page.) Write a summary paragraph from page 173 (Start of 6.5 Ethnography) through the end. Medias effect on audiences. There is a belief that media can have a direct effect on audiences and could impact our lives beneficially. Arguments being disputed that the medium is both popular and everywhere. As each new media during the late 19th century and 20th century became popular and was also noticed as a threat. Media and society and Hollywood films are being blamed for massacres that have happened in the USA recently. Censorship is being class based because people usually have less formal education then the middle class. Rampages against crash, where liberal society should draw the line. Crash gives no character ship and gives people bad views. Uses of gratification and a person’s identity and information is important in a way which students are able to approach media texts. In the beginning word are being described of media texts and views. Audiences use entertainment to distract themselves from the real world. The way that people see things and which genres are appropriate to certain uses and gratifications. We see others in the community acting this way, so we perceive it as normal. Example of this is in Hollywood “where the sheer volume of films produced necessitated a production-line system.” Which causes a conflict between art and entertainment because texts are meant for profit, which does not mean they cannot be more than entertainment. The uses and gratifications are for our understanding on how audiences engage and interact with the texts. Media theorists finally realized that audiences were real people that needed to be treated correctly, I when ethnographic was produced. The researcher would become with the audience that she or he is studying to observe and watch them. Questionaries' would be a research option in which the audience would be asked. Ethnographic is to see further than the audience to understand what they are observing. Audience studies have developed and improved for the better through uses of gratifications to ethnography. The uses and gratifications theory was produced with emphasis to entertainment was the force behind media production which led to other ways of reading audiences encoding/decoding and ethnography was introduced. Write at least two paragraphs from the section Diversity and Cultural Citizenship.
Write at least two paragraphs from the section Globalization and Localization. Write at least two paragraphs from the section YouTube as Cultural Archive. Diversity and Cultural Citizenship YouTube has been a platform to many and opens up to people culturally and by diversity. It has created a platform for digital media participants and social and cultural diversity. This connects people around the world and allow them to communicate no matter their, race or culture. There is more communication despite the ethnicity. It is a place where individuals can elaborate and represent who they are and engage with one another with cultural differences. Others are allowed to share their story and have public debates with social identities including ethnics and cultural politics. Instead of wars and outraged arguments. Also, participation in popular culture is important to citizenship especially for the women. LQBTQ and religious ethnic minorities are not being defined. Coming out videos has been a mew topic, as it is being practiced on YouTube. Based on the article it states “LQBTQ YouTubers. The creation and sharing of coming out videos are a practice which proceeds but was amplified by the It Gets Better Project.” Personal stories are being brought out groups to talk about their identities. Changes of diversity and cultural production has changed for the better with producers and creators taking the lead. Globalization and Localization. Globalization and Localization has a say in whether we can follow and see new ideas and surprises or does YouTube keep that information enclosed. YouTube participants had the option to change the language or what country they were from experiencing different view from different countries. The text states that “In our original 2008 study, community responses to the introduction of localization were sparse and largely frequent, and protests videos relation to the move were quite difficult to find.” Complaints by other countries where that they were not in the program had to chose between a different flag or a specific country which were racking up the complaints by them. It has been questioned whether localization is a good thing for cultural citizenship. Because of their interactions with outside of their country, this questioned if U.S participants needed a Globalized YouTube. However, all the other countries wanting a more localized one because of information and cultural purposes. YouTube has been careful with information spreading for example pop ups like this video is unavailable for your country will appear. Some countries even rejecting U.S social media due to reasons as cultural traditions and advanced digital cultures have been the reasons to this. YouTube as Cultural Archive YouTube as a Cultural Archive has been a topic in which practices are being specialized of cultural activities. Examples of this can be public libraries, museums, and broadcasters. It has been reportedly that YouTube has been to capture memories from your childhood. Music videos have contended problems with contemporary pop culture. Content on YouTube has the chance of having Social media shapes us humans’ identities with the content that we expose ourselves to changes the way we think about ourselves and others. Social media limits the kinds of identities we have through the discourses through action possibilities. These discourses are to be market, play, and sociality. The way we dress or the way that we want to dress or the person we want to be is all connected through social media and changes the way you look at yourself. This overall impacting our own identity to one another.
Social media has influenced me negatively and positively. Social media affects and even changes the way people think of themselves however I have been affected negatively. For example, posting on Instagram which does not get many likes affects one negatively. Social media is all correlated with your number of views, likes, shares, etc. Which plays a role in identifying your own self. However social media has also influenced me positively because I have been ale to reach lots of new people and be more social then ever. And I have been inspired by certain performers and people on social media platforms. Personally, I agree that social media shapes your identity. Social media plays a role of how you want to be seen as. Like profile pictures and posts. For example, to dress a certain way to get as many likes as possible however changing your own identity. Social media promotes people not to be themselves and limits your identity. It is racializing our communication when apple changes the emojis from pale to dark brown. People may judge you and causes problems with many users on these platforms. Certain bodies that you want to look like, and other people want to like that. Bringing back the topic of how these platforms shapes our identity. The news changes the way we think in many different ways. This atricle here has many different sources on this and how watching the news daily for hours is harmful in differentways. These ways include physical and mental harm to yourself. Researchers have proven these facts and continue to beleive this. Watching the news affects behaviors in one anither by contolling and persuaing on the way that they act. The news can play a trick on your mind. This could be by causing stress and affevting the mental state in somebody.
I do agree that the news changed the way that we think and behave. I think this because in the passage there was plenty of reasoning and studies that were proven to show this. One example of a study that showed this was the study and research on the stress level of people form 9/11. The results were shown that 53% of people are more likely to have cardiovascular problems in the next 3 years. Later on they found out that this could be from viewing 3 or more hours of news on 9/11 was related to health problems later on. All of this due to stress that the news puts on viewers. They don't just give the facts they make it more interesring causing stress on the viewers. Causing mental and physical health problems. The first image of my TOC was the unrevised picture to my left. The one below it was the revised one which then I made some small few changes In these images. However, the backgrounds are the same the text appearances and fonts are different. On the right I have changed the fonts to be darker and larger overall making it easier for the audience to read it. I have also made other small changes for example, I put bullet points in each of my descriptions making it clearer and neater for the audience. I felt like these small changes wouldn't be very noticeable but they make a big difference when viewing and reading he TOC. Overall in this TOC very small changes were made but the changes were needed. In the double page spread I have learned many different techniques and strategies that I've used. From the beginning of the year I had absolutely zero clue on how to do any of this but for example on the image of the bottom left on the first page of the double spread I learned how to take images from the web and crop them all together to make a preferring image that is presented. I learned how to take a picture and spread it out into two by cropping the image and saving it. Then shaping it as a whole background image which I used as a baseball field. On the second page of the spread I used the transparency feature so the text wouldn't blend with the background image. In the specifics of the text I used a hook to grab the readers attention and to let them know what this swill be about. I gave thorough information about the players and the season in specific details to allow them to have an understanding. Here is the unrevised second page of my double page spread. In my other blog posts I will discuss more about topic and reasoning behind the words. In this second page of the spread the background image is the other half of the baseball field that is fit into the correct size. I also used the transparency feature to present the words-which I will go more into topic in other blog post. I used black font to make the words presentable and clear so the audience has a better understanding of the text. In my double page spread here is the first image of it. This is the unrevised image of the first page on the double page spread. Here we have in the background an image of a baseball field. In this image I took a whole baseball field from a picture online and split it in half. Then I took images from online to find a mask, a helmet, and a baseball bat and put it on the bottom left of the cover. The I decided to add the title to the whole front page in large font because I found that that would be more convenient and present a nicer look. Lastly, my name is presented on the bottom left hand side of the spread for the authors name.
The significance that the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audience is how social media has a big influence of media. This is because it is cheaper and quicker than the distribution of print. Print is more expensive and the distribution on media is much more convenient. Also, the majority of the audience is online increasing production. Another reason is how it is easier for the audience to consume the film. Content that is streamed online and companies like Netflix that have productions online make it a lot easier for the audience to view the content. This makes it so much more convenient for the audience and makes everything much easier. Overall, there is a huge significance on the development of digital media technologies have for media institutions and the audience.
Throughout this whole scene, the sound that was produced was very important overall in many different ways. In the beginning of the clip, there is first music playing as an introduction but when the man is in the office there is a moment of silence. This silence has to do with the sound because it gives the audience a feeling of something happening. As the background voice comes on there is a sound playing also. This gives off a suspense vibe making the audience think and wonder what will happen. This background voice is important because it allows the audience to see what he is talking about with a certain explanation coming from the character. Lastly, the background sound when he is in the pool is a soothing tone just to make sure that everything is not silent with just the character talking.
My product uses and challenges conventions because it uses and develops to readers that it is modernized in day and is current with the certain time period. The readers then can understand and have a better connection with my product because they are familiar with what they are seeing. The certain style in my product is the type of style that the reader is in comfort with. My product specifies certain times and certain events that has happened in recent time which may challenge conventions because it is reviewing a certain time period not just and event in general. The product may not cooperate with other ideas from other times like in the 2010s because it would not be talking about the same things that have happened in 2010 and 2021.
My product represents social groups or issues by having similar topics and social type that the reader enjoys . In my product I’m targeting a specific type of audience which would be an athlete or someone interested in sports. Therefor the mise en scene in my product is a background of a baseball field because this would grab the attention of the people interested in sports. My product may have social issues because some may thing that since the background is a baseball field that it will not describe other sports. Some may say that it is just focusing on baseball which could be a issue. Background image was taken for the canvas website: https://www.canva.com/design/DAEXv2sI4Mo/-xcUXGCW7IGbIqRkcopg9A/edit In my magazine cover I've switched many things up. The image on the left is the revised complete magazine cover, while the image on the right is my original. For the revised cover I've switched the lighting in the background image to show the text clearer. I've also added a tiny top of the cover giving the cover a better look also including details about information and what to expect inside of the cover. The text in the revised image is much clearer and easier to understand.
